Call for Session Proposals – Extended deadline

Aoteaora New Zealand International Development Studies Network 10thBiennial Conference: “Disruption and Renewal”

December 5th to 7th, 2018

University of Canterbury, Christchurch (New Zealand)

“Disruption and Renewal” is evocative of key issues in international development, from climate disruption affecting the Pacific and Asia, to political disruptions in the region such as the refugee crisis in Myanmar and its effects on Bangladesh. Disruption and renewal also closely resonates with the people of Canterbury, given our experiences with the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, and the more recent 2016 earthquake in Kaikoura.

We invite proposals for sessions that address and problematise “Disruption and Renewal” within the broad field of international development studies. We particularly encourage sessions that build on ‘disruptive’ scholarships and/or tackle ‘renewal’ as a space of hopeful possibility, innovation and practical policy recommendation for the future.

Session Formats

We encourage sessions that include diverse sets of participants. We particularly welcome proposals that bridge traditional divides, such as those between students, established academics, policymakers and practitioners. In addition to more conventional panel submissions and paper sessions, we encourage proposals for a variety of formats, including workshops, roundtables, practitioner forums and ‘disruptive’ formats.
